My Summer Reading List 2017 - Some Oldies from the Library
Summer is finally here! Which means that very soon almost all of Sweden will be going on holidays. For most of July there is a mass exodus here in Stockholm. Most locals escape to their summer houses and many of the businesses, shops and restaurants close. Including the local library. So before that happens I popped by to pick up a stack of books for my summer reading. I'm lucky that my library has a good range of English books and many older titles that have been on my to read list for a while. So here are a few of the books I'm hoping to read over the summer and why.
The one plus one by Jojo Moyes
I started reading The One Plus One as soon as I got home from the library. It was a little slower to get into than some of the other books I've read lately, but now that I'm about 150 pages in I'm really enjoying it. I picked it up because I absolutely loved Me Before You and After You, also by Jojo Moyes. If I really enjoy one book by a particular author I tend to gravitate towards their other books. I'm glad I chose this one and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of it. Plus, one of the characters names is Jess!
last night at chateau marmont by Lauren Weisberger
Last Night at Chateau Marmont is the oldest book from my list, published in 2010. I chose it because, as with The One Plus One, I've already read some other books by Lauren Weisberger and loved them. So when I saw this at the library I had to pick it up and check out the back cover. The story of a happy couples life turned into turmoil and the prospect of a difficult decision for one of the characters had me intrigued. So I added it to my list.
the last letter from your lover by Jojo moyes
Until I started writing this I didn't even realise that I'd picked up two books by Jojo Moyes! The short, romantic blurb for this book meant that this choice was a no brainer. It seems like the perfect, romantic, summer read. I'm really looking forward to reading this one.
the goldfinch by Donna tart
My reason for choosing The Goldfinch is completely different from the others. For years now I've been picking up this book and putting it back down. I first started seeing it whenever I went on holidays. It seemed to be the book of choice for a long flight or a lazy day by the pool. I was seeing it everywhere! So every time I went to the book store I'd pick it up. Then usually I'd be put off by its size and the fact that I wasn't completely hooked after reading the blurb. So when I saw it at the library and knew that I had the whole summer to read it and many, many memories of seeing other people reading it on previous summer holidays I decided to give it a go. I haven't read any other books by Donna Tartt so I'm interested to read something by a new author to me.
I'm not sure if I'll get through all of these this summer. There is already so much on my to-do list. Plus the weather has been amazing that I just want to be outside getting active as much as possible! But I'm also looking forward to some quiet reading time as well. What are you reading this summer?
