A Tiny House in A Swedish Forest

I love Tiny Houses. Like, really really love them. I’ve spent hours watching videos of people living amazing tiny lives and I’m determined to have my own one day. I also really enjoy relaxing and spending time in nature. So when my husband found some tiny houses in the Swedish forest that we could rent for a long weekend I was so excited!

INFOREST

INFOREST has built two new tiny houses at the start of this year, completely off-grid, in the beautiful area of Hjo. Which is about a four-hour drive, southwest from Stockholm. The team at INFOREST recommends staying at least two nights. We all live such busy and fast-paced lives and this year has thrown even more challenges at the world. So it can take a day or two to really unwind. We welcomed the idea of getting off-grid and into the forest to rest and recharge and decided to stay three nights.

At the moment there are two tiny houses to choose from. Vilgot and Ebbe. We stayed in Vilgot, nestled in amongst the trees at the end of a tiny road. Completely isolated from traffic and other houses with only the sounds of nature to welcome you. You park your car about 200 meters away and wander up the path. The Trees open up and there stands Vilgot, charming, and welcoming.

The houses are, of course, very Scandinavian in style and beautiful big windows showcase the surrounding trees. I could see the forest from every angle in the house, but the cosy corner couch nestled against the window was my favourite place to be. The houses have everything you need to be comfortable, all linens and everything you might need to cook some comforting meals. So all you need to bring is food and maybe a good book.

We could feel the first touches of Autumn in the air while we were there. So we made the most of the outdoor fire pit. First by warming up with a glass of wine and then later cooking our dinner over the open flames. I’d love to cook like this every weekend!

Waking up to the view and quiet sounds of the Forest was magical. Something I could definitely handle doing more often.

If you do feel like exploring a little of the local area, Hjo is a really cute town with shops, restaurants, and a harbour. Whilst we were wandering around we stumbled upon the photography exhibition “We Have A Dream”. The exhibition was set up at different locations around the town, so we could stroll around and see the sights, stopping to take in the photos at intervals. The exhibition was really moving. In their own words, it is …

AN EXHIBITION ABOUT COURAGE, COMPASSION AND HUMAN RIGHTS

Photographer and Interviewer, Albert Wiking and Oscar Edlund have done a marvellous thing putting this together. It made me think and admire even more, the people in this world who dedicate so much, to do more for humanity. Do yourself a favour and read more about it here.

Overall, I had a wonderful time getting out of the city and into the forest. I’m grateful that I’m able to take these breaks and appreciate life and nature. Thank you again INFOREST for creating something special with tiny houses.

A takeaway from the weekend for me was, that even though I think I do what I can to reduce my impact on mother nature, I’ve realised there is still so much more I can do. (I especially realised this when we ran out of electricity on the third morning!) A little time in an off grid tiny house in the Swedish forest really gave me some more perspective. So I’m going to try and step up my game and see what else I can do to help save our environment.

Hope you enjoyed reading about our little weekend getaway. Do you love tiny houses as much as I do? If so, let me know of some of your favourites.

Until next time, take care.

Cheers, Jess
